Keeping Girls in School

One of the most vulnerable times in a girl’s life is when she begins to menstruate.

Shame, embarrassment, and lack of access to education, proper sanitation, and period supplies marginalize girls and women. If girls don’t have supplies, they miss school and often drop out.

These challenges reverberate into ongoing poverty, vulnerability to human trafficking, child marriage, and a lifelong lack of adequate livelihood. Wunders is working to change this reality.

Wunders exists to equip girls and women with locally made sustainable menstrual supplies and community-informed education so that they can thrive.

our holistic solution

sustainable solutions

Our team develops reusable menstrual supplies that are made locally, creating a sustainable livelihood opportunity for women. We distribute these kits to school girls and women in Kenya and surrounding countries. We have plans to launch Wunders in new locations soon. We modify fabrics and designs to match the cultural sensitivities and laundry realities of each geographic location.

community informed

Wunders menstrual supplies are made in community-based sewing centers and distributed by local leaders who already work to create equity and fight trafficking. Wunders works within our partner networks to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities, educate and equip students, and prevent the vulnerabilities associated with human trafficking.

curriculum & training

Our core curriculum includes vital information about menstrual health and safety. Our curriculum emphasizes that we are each valued and all wonderfully created in the image of God. It covers vital menstrual health education, anti-human trafficking safety information, and how to care for their Wunders kit. Each training is customized for the local context. This, combined with reusable menstrual supplies, helps girls stay in school and lower the risk of girls and women being trafficked.

Wunders is a program of the Set Free Movement in partnership with Free Methodist World Missions and International Child Care Ministries.

We are honored to work with partners around the world to find the best materials for the Wunders kits and provide high-quality training. Thrive, the Set Free Movement team in Nairobi, Kenya leads Wunders trainings. The Thrive team is building up a new generation of Thrive leaders in Togo to continue this important work in other countries. We work directly with a women’s sewing group in Southeast Asia to source and import high-performance fabrics. This sewing group works to provide women who live with disabilities and are at risk of human trafficking, job training and livelihood opportunities. We are committed to keeping girls in school and helping prevent trafficking through the Wunders framework.

Let’s help girls stay in school, women hold longer-term jobs, reduce waste, and lower the risk of girls and women being trafficked.
